STEFANOS TSITSIPAS
- Stefanos Tsitsipas progressed to the semi-finals of the Italian Open after a walkover against Roger Federer as his opponent pulled out before the contest with a leg injury.
- Tsitsipas will now head into a clash against Rafael Nadal with a day’s rest under his belt as he attempts to reach the fifth final of his career.
- Having faced Nadal four times, Tsitsipas has only beaten him once but the 20-year-old from Greece won their last contest in Madrid last week.
RAFAEL NADAL
- Rafael Nadal claimed a straight-sets victory over fellow countryman Fernando Verdasco and will now meet Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semi-finals.
- Nadal claimed the first set 6-4 before sweeping Verdasco aside in the second as he overpowered his opponent with a classy display.
- Tsitsipas poses a challenge for Nadal and despite getting the better of him in three of their four contests to date, Tsitsipas has shown he can beat the Spaniard on clay with their result from the Madrid Open still fresh in Nadal’s mind.
THE PREDICTION
This should be a superb contest between one of the game’s rising stars and a man he will hope to try and emulate one day. Stefanos Tsitsipas will be trying to make it two wins in a row over Rafael Nadal as the pair meet at the semi-final stage for the second tournament in succession. Tsitsipas stunned the Spaniard in Madrid just last week but that loss irritated Nadal and he will be out for revenge which he could achieve in a three-set thriller.
