Anna Kalinskaya vs Marie Bouzkova prediction
Anna Kalinskaya stunned Jessica Pegula last week in Strasbourg but promptly withdrew from her quarter-final match with Danielle Collins so it will be interesting to see what condition she arrives at Roland Garros in.
The 30th-seed may well have withdrawn to preserve herself ahead of this tournament but that has put a small question mark over the 26-year-old Russian ahead of this opening match.
She meets Marie Bouzkova in the first round on Monday in what should be an entertaining opening match.
The 26-year-old Czech reached the third round last year and would have high hopes of doing just as well this time around.
She too played in Strasbourg last week but she also retired from her match against Paula Badosa in the round of 16. The reasons could be very similar to Kalinskaya’s but it does throw up question marks heading into this opening match.
There is little to divide the two here but we are very wary given their recent withdrawals. We can see the player that gets control early pulling away and winning this comfortably so we expect a 2-0 win regardless of which player it is.
