Wolfsburg had to dig in hard last weekend and whilst it’s wins that they so desperately need, to come away from Sinsheim with a point against Champions League chasing Hoffenheim warrants serious credit when considering the attacking quality of Christian Ilzer’s side. It gives Dieter Hecking a foundation in which to build from.

After reeling off consecutive wins to pull clear of Wolfsburg, Werder Bremen were dragged back into trouble by losing 0-2 to Mainz, allowing Wolfsburg to gain a point on them, meaning the gap between the two clubs currently stands at four points heading into this encounter.
The attacking potency that had proven the pillar of Werder’s upturn disappeared as Mainz put in an excellent away performance, silencing the fans in Bremen early on with an early goal before completely snuffing out the Werder offensive threat.
