Wolfsburg preview: Losing streak continues

For Wolfsburg, it’s now three league defeats in a row and a real chance that they will drop into the bottom three this weekend if they can’t find a way to get something out of this match. But the backline has been so fragile of late and are unable to prevent their opponents from scoring. On the opposite side, it’s not been good enough from an attacking point of view either.

Last time out saw arguably the worst result of the season for Wolfsburg as they went 3-0 down away to fellow strugglers Augsburg. A goal from Adam Daghim proved merely a consolation as Wolfsburg are now still yet to win in the league since the opening weekend.

Stuttgart preview: Still inside the top four

Stuttgart’s excellent form sees them still hanging onto a Champions League place despite the threat of both Bayer Leverkusen and FC Cologne. Three straight wins and four victories in their last five league games have led to such lofty heights in the table and another three points here would take them above Borussia Dortmund, at least temporarily.

They weren’t at their best last time out against Heidenheim, but they got the job done which was the most important thing, winning by a single goal vs the Bundesliga’s bottom-placed side. Bilal El Khannouss got the goal with left-back Max Mittelstadt doing what he does best roaming forward to provide the assist.

Wolfsburg team news: No returns

Wolfsburg remain without the likes of Paredes, Rogerio, Vavro and Wimmer, none of whom have recovered from their respectively injuries and are expected to be missing here. Winger Jesper Lindstrom could make it as he battles a muscle problem.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Grabara; Fischer, Jenz, Koulierakis, Maehle; Svanberg, Arnold, Gerhardt; Daghim, Amoura, Skov Olsen

Unavailable: Paredes (Injured), Rogerio (Injured), Vavro (Injured), Wimmer (Injured)

Questionable: Lindstrom (Injured)

Stuttgart team news: Tomas up top

When taking into account the foot injury keeping Demirovic out of this game, it would be no surprise to see Tiago Tomas start up front against his old club. A late call will likely be made on winger Jamie Leweling, who is nursing an adductor injury.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Nubel; Assignon, Jaquez, Chabot, Mittelstadt; Karazor, Stiller; Leweling, El Khannouss, Fuhrich; Tomas

Unavailable: Demirovic (Injured), Drljaca (Injured), Silas (Fitness)

Questionable: Leweling (Injured)

Wolfsburg vs Stuttgart prediction

No game is easy to win away from home when to comes to the Bundesliga. Stuttgart will know that, which is why Sebastian Hoeness’s men will need to be on point to come away with another win on the road. But confidence within the camp should be sky-high and all the momentum is with them right now as their opponents continue to struggle.

It’s hard to look beyond the visitors when taking into account how poorly Wolfsburg have been playing of late. They’ve run into a brick wall offensively and can’t keep a clean sheet. With that in mind, Stuttgart have to be favoured to come out on top.
