Wigan Athletic vs Wycombe prediction

Michael Duff got off to the perfect start as head coach of Wycombe, defeating Northampton Town 2-0 at Adams Park. Now his side make the long journey up north midweek, but with a huge opportunity ahead of them. The same can be said for fellow League One side Wigan Athletic, although the mood within their camp will likely be very different to that of the visitors after their 4-1 pummelling at the hands of local rivals Bolton Wanderers this past weekend.

Latics boss Ryan Lowe and his players are now under pressure to deliver a fourth-round berth following such a dire result from a fans perspective, but have the big benefit of playing at home. Wigan are unbeaten at the Brick Community Stadium so far this season in League One, also winning both their previous League Cup ties on home soil. However, with a ‘new manager’ bounce, Wycombe pose stern opposition and a squad right at the top end of League One in terms of quality. With that in mind, this encounter is a tough one to call and it may take penalties to decide it.

Wigan Athletic vs Wycombe tip: Draw
