Both these two clubs have made good starts to the season in both league and cup. Wigan Athletic boast seven points from a possible 12 and defeated Notts County in the first round of the League Cup, whilst Stockport County progressed past Crewe and currently sit inside the play-off places in League One, having won three of five games.
The schedule for third tier clubs has been a tough one in August with this set to be Wigan and Stockport’s third fixture in the space of just ten days.
