When are the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics taking place? The Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics is taking take place between 6th February, 2026 and 22nd February 2026, although some preliminary events in sports such as Curling and Ice Hockey have already got underway.

Where are the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics taking place? The Opening Ceremony for the games will be held at San Siro in Milan with the Closing Ceremony being held at the Verona Arena in Verona. There are events taking place across Lombardy and the north west of Italy with Cortina d’Ampezzo in the Alps hosting a lot of skiing events.

What’s on today (7 February) at the Winter Olympics?

The Winter Olympics officially began a couple of days ago with preliminary events getting underway before the Opening Ceremony took place at San Siro in Milan on Friday 6th February.

Now the real stuff begins on the proper ‘Day 1’ of the games with plenty of medal events already set to take place among a lot of other intriguing action from the north west of Italy.

Medal events

Alpine Skiing: Men’s downhill final | 10.30am (UK) – Marco Odermatt going for gold

The first medal event of the games comes in the Alpine Skiing with the final of the men’s downhill. There is a heavy favourite for this one with Swiss athlete Marco Odermatt a world champion in this event and looking to add to his first Olympic gold in the Giant Slalom in Beijing in 2022.

Cross-Country Skiing: Women’s skiathlon final | 12pm (UK)

The second medal event of the games comes hot on the heels of the opener in the women’s skiathlon final in Cross-Country Skiing.

Ski Jumping: Women’s normal hill final | 6.57pm (UK)

50 women will do battle in the first Ski Jumping event of the games with the women’s normal hill final run taking place after two other runs late on Saturday afternoon.

Snowboarding: Men’s big air | 7.17pm (UK)

The men’s big air in the Snowboarding takes place with two runs before the final, medal-winning run and, predictably, Japan and New Zealand dominate the 12-athlete field with four and three men respectively. 

Speed Skating: Women’s 3000m | 3pm (UK)

One of the long forms of Speed Skating with the 3000m takes place in the women’s event on Saturday, with the Dutch team seeking to potentially even go one, two and three on the podium.

Other events

Curling: Mixed doubles preliminaries | 9.05am – 6.05pm (UK)

Team GB have made a sensational start to the curling with three wins from three thus far as they set to do battle with a strong Canada side as well as against Team USA late on in the day.

Figure Skating: Men’s singles and ice dance | 6.45pm – 9.05pm (UK) 

Ilia Malinin is in action in the men’s singles Figure Skating on Saturday, while the ice dance also continues, whereby the USA are set to battle it out with Japan and hosts Italy. 

Freestyle Skiing: Men’s and women’s slopestyle qualification | 9.30am – 1pm (UK) – Eileen Gu is in action

Eileen Gu is a two-time Olympic gold medallist but she missed out with silver in the slopestyle in Beijing. She will be back in qualifying for the slopestyle final on Saturday.

Ice Hockey: Women’s preliminaries | 11.10am – 8.10pm (UK)

The women’s group stages in the Ice Hockey continue on Saturday throughout the day with the standout games coming in the last couple of fixtures in Group A as the United States face Finland and Switzerland take on Canada.

Luge: Men’s Singles Run 1 and Run 2 | 4pm - 5.32pm (UK)

The men’s singles event in the luge takes places across the weekend with the first two runs of the final on Saturday and the final two, where the medals are decided, on Sunday. 

Winter Olympics Latest
