It was an excellent year for rising star Wessel Nijman away from the big tournaments, with the 25-year-old Dutchman even picking up a couple of Players Championship titles towards the latter end of the year, but his first-round performance at Ally Pally was a real statement.
Nijman averaged over 100 in his 3-0 defeat of Karel Sedlacek, and he could potentially go deep if he can maintain that level.
Gabriel Clemens was also a 3-0 victor on the same evening, this time over Alex Spellman, but the big German - despite hitting a 170 finish - wasn't quite as impressive overall.
A former semi-finalist at Ally Pally, Clemens carries a fair degree more experience than his opponent, but the form book very much points towards a Nijman victory here. For extra value, consider backing him to hit the most maximums, too.
