Werder Bremen Preview: Werder on the charge

Werder Bremen begin the 33rd match day of the 2024/25 Bundesliga season sitting just a couple of points and places outside of the top six and the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying spot due to an excellent recent run of form which continued with a draw last weekend.

That draw was a frustrating one, though, as Jens Stage had given Werder a 2-0 lead inside 5 minutes at Alte Forsterei against Union Berlin before Union fought back for a 2-2 draw. That result has extended their unbeaten run of form to six matches in the Bundesliga.

RB Leipzig Preview: Leipzig on the slide

Performances at the start of the season were underwhelming and then their results began to take a dive. Those results and performance levels never recovered and Marco Rose was eventually parted company with as Leipzig slipped out of the top four.

They are the team that occupy sixth spot ahead of the weekend so this is a crucial game for both sides. Leipzig had a 2-0 lead against Bayern Munich last weekend before going 3-2 down and then snatching a last-gasp equaliser to delay the Bavarians’ title celebrations.

Werder Bremen Team News: Nothing fresh

There are no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues ahead of the visit of Leipzig this weekend. Versatile Montenegro international defender Milos Veljkovic, formerly of Tottenham Hotspur, is a doubt due to a calf injury.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Zetterer; Stark, Friedl, Pieper; Weiser, Stage, Lynen, Schmid, Agu; Burke, Ducksch

Unavailable:

Questionable: Veljkovic (Injured)

RB Leipzig Team News: Couple of suspensions

RB Leipzig are dealing with a couple of suspension issues at Werder Bremen this weekend such as Germany international left-back David Raum and Slovenia international midfielder Kevin Kampl. They also have a few injury concerns to worry about, too.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Vandevoordt; Nedeljkovic, Klostermann, Lukeba, Geertruida; Baumgartner, Seiwald, Haidara, Simons; Openda, Sesko

Unavailable: Henrichs (Injured), Raum (Suspended), Schlager (Injured), Kampl (Suspended)

Questionable: Gulacsi (Injured), Orban (Injured), Ouedraogo (Injured)

Werder Bremen vs RB Leipzig Prediction

Werder Bremen are challenging for European qualification with an entertaining style of football. They can overtake Leipzig in the top six with a victory this weekend. Leipzig are heading into a summer of upheaval but that upheaval will be detrimentally affected by failing to qualify for any European competition. This should end up being an end-to-end thriller with a fair bit on the line but siding with Werder, given their home advantage, looks the way to go with this one.
