Werder Bremen in what has been a disappointing campaign so far may just be starting to corner, having put up consecutive wins and scoring six goals in the process. A 2-0 win over Heidenheim was followed up by a statement 1-4 triumph on the road at Union Berlin, lifting them out of the bottom three.
However, they remain positioned just above trouble and need to keep winning if they are to break away from the relegation pack with their opponents here, only one point behind them as it stands and boasting a superior goal difference.

Whilst Mainz are at least putting points on the board, their recent spate of draws are not helping them escape from relegation danger, as they are sat above the bottom three on goal difference only. Each of their last three Bundesliga fixtures have now ended level.
