Appointed to replace Xabi Alonso, it all started so well for the Dutchman as new signing Jarrell Quansah gave the 2023-24 Bundesliga champions the lead at the BayArena, heading home from an Alejandro Grimaldo set-piece.
But Hoffenheim rallied, coming from behind to score twice without reply and Leverkusen could not break them down, falling to a 1-2 defeat at home. Most worrying was their lack of creativity and cutting edge with just seven shots and two on target.

Erik ten Hag must find a way to improve his side’s offensive output after the Hoffenheim loss and with the players at his disposal, you would expect at least an improvement in production, especially when they have a striker as good as Patrik Schick leading the line.
