Venezia are firmly in the bottom three and the relegation places with just three victories in their 23 matches so far ahead of facing a much-improved Roma side pushing for the top seven.

Venezia Preview: Serie B-bound

In their most recent outing, Venezia suffered a gut-wrenching 3-2 defeat to Udinese at the Bluenergy Stadium in Friuli. The Venetians went 2-0 down in the 52nd minute before dragging it back to 2-2 about 25 minutes later but then eventually losing by three goals to two.

Former Roma boss Eusebio Di Francesco, who oversaw the relegation of Frosinone to Serie B last season, returns to the Stadio Olimpico under immense pressure as they seem destined for relegation this season, currently winless in their last six matches.

Roma Preview: Ranieri’s Romans

Former Chelsea and Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri came out of retirement to become Roma’s third permanent manager of the season during the November international break and they have been much-improved ever since as they push into the top-half of the table.

However, the visitors come into this one on the back of a 3-1 loss to AC Milan in the quarter-final of the Coppa Italia in midweek with on-loan Roma striker Tammy Abraham notching a brace for the Rossoneri to seal Roma’s fate in that game.

Venezia Team News: Key issues

Venezia have several issues ahead of the visit of Roma with defenders Marin Sverko and Richie Sagrado both doubts alongside Alfred Duncan. Goalkeeper Filip Stankovic remains sidelined, too, alongside Michael Svoboda due to knee injuries.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Joronen; Schingtienne, Idzes, Cande; Zerbin, Bjarkason, Caviglia, Busio, Haps; Oristanio, Yeboah

Unavailable: Stankovic (Injured), Svoboda (Injured)

Questionable: Sverko (Injured), Sagrado (Injured), Duncan (Injured), Doumbia (Injured)

Roma Team News: Hummels & Paredes to return

Germany international defender Mats Hummels and Argentina international midfielder Leandro Paredes were rested against AC Milan in midweek and they are expected to return with former Borussia Monchengladbach Manu Kone now missing due to suspension.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Svilar; Rensch, Maldini, Ndicka, Angelino; Paredes, Cristante, Pisilli; Matias Soule, Shomurodov, El Shaarawy

Unavailable: Kone (Suspended)

Questionable:

Venezia vs Roma Prediction

Venezia appear destined for the drop this season and wouldn’t be a surprise to see the end of the Di Francesco reign soon enough. They take on a Roma side that are generally much-improved with Claudio Ranieri tightening things up at the back and able to put together some more cohesive styles of play moving forward. Given Venezia’s general lack of quality, Roma are expected to win and, against his former side, the potential eventual departure of Di Francesco could be brought on here.

Venezia vs Roma Tip: Roma to win
