USA team news: Strikeforce to watch

After suffering a knock against Türkiye, USA could be without midfielder Tyler Adams with the second straight game after he missed his side’s loss at the hands of Switzerland last time out. Goalkeepers Zack Steffen and Patrick Schulte are both injured, meaning a call-up for Chicago Fire’s Chris Brady.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Turner; Freeman, Richards, McKenzie, Arfsten; Cardoso, De la Torre; Luna, Tillman, McGlynn; White

Unavailable: Robinson (Injured), Steffen (Injured), Schulte (Injured)

Questionable: Adams (Injured)

Trinidad and Tobago team news: Trimmingham out of contention

Josiah Trimmingham will not feature for Trinidad and Tobago here following the knee injury he suffered vs Costa Rica. Aside from him, Dwight Yorke should have a full-strength squad in which to choose from.

Predicted XI (5-4-1): Phillip; Cardines, Ramonyd, Jones, Bateau, Spicer; Sealy, Molino, Phillips, Fortune; Garcia

Unavailable: Trimmingham (Injured)

USA vs Trinidad and Tobago prediction

In the most recent five encounters between these two nations, USA have been on the winning side four times. Most recently though, it was Trinidad and Tobago who were victorious, beating USA 2-1 back in a November 2023 friendly match. Much has changed since then, with USA now under the command of Mauricio Pochettino and desperately to build up some much-needed momentum with the World Cup now only a year away.

It's been a nightmare start to life in charge of the USMNT for Pochettino and the thought of them beginning this Gold Cup campaign with defeat is unthinkable from their perspective. On paper, they have better players than Trinidad and Tobago, but now it’s about operating as a well-oiled unit and stringing together some good points. Expect them to start on a positive note.
