USA vs Spain prediction

Despite boasting 13 shots compared to Spain's three, ten of which were on target and a massively higher xG, USA ended on the losing side against the world champions in Washington D.C, as they paid the price for some wasteful finishing. An early double from Spain proved to be the difference despite a relentless wave of attacking pressure from Emma Hayes' side thereafter. The most glaring miss came from midfielder Lily Yohannes, who had a penalty saved by Spain goalkeeper Adriana Nanclares.

Playing in the absence of first-choice stopper Cata Coll, Nanclares put in an outstanding individual performance with several excellent saves to deny the USWNT and preserve Spain's two-goal lead. The depth of the Spaniards was on full display with several key players missing, including Claudia Pina, Aitana Bonmati, Vicky Lopez, Irene Paredes and Mapi Leon. Yet they still found a way to win.

Despite the loss, there were plenty of positives to take for USA ahead of the rematch at Subaru Park and whilst Hayes may make a couple of changes with the likes of Mallory Swanson and Ashley Sanchez pushing to start, you would expect them to once again fashion plenty of goalscoring opportunities against this depleted Spanish line-up. With that in mind, the shrewd move would be to back USA gaining revenge with victory this time around, although the draw no bet market is worth utilising.
