Only one point and one place currently seperates Union Berlin and Freiburg in the Bundesliga, so expect a close one here in the German capital.

Kick-off date/time:

How to watch on TV: UK – Not televised / US – ESPN

How to watch online: UK – Not televised / US – ESPN+

Union Berlin preview: Inconsistent run

Union Berlin could not successfully back up their important 3-1 victory over rock-bottom Borussia Monchengladbach a fortnight ago, as the next Bundesliga fixture involving them, saw Steffen Baumgart’s side beaten 1-0 by Werder Bremen, so leapfrogged them in the table as a result.

It was a frustrating outcome for Union, whose inconsistency has been demonstrated by their last three Bundesliga fixtures, losing two and winning one. They won’t be able to make a sustained push for the European places until they can put together an extended run of games without suffering a loss.

Freiburg preview: Unbeaten streak at an end

Freiburg had not been picking up many wins of late but they had at least been very tough to beat in the Bundesliga. But their unbeaten run came to an end last time out in the league, as they were taken down by two goals to nil at the hands of Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArea last weekend, dropping them down the table.

They did at least bounce back in midweek by navigating their way through to the next round of the DFB-Pokal with a 1-3 win away at Fortuna Dusseldorf. Two goals inside the first ten minutes set the tone against the 2. Bundesliga club and they didn’t let things slip from there.

Union Berlin team news: Skov only absentee

Skov is likely Union Berlin’s only player confirmed as missing heading into this match, as he’s failed to recover from a calf injury. Everyone else should be fit for the hosts.

Predicted XI: (3-4-3): Ronnow; Doekhi, Querfeld, Leite; Trimmel, Haberer, Kemlein, Kohn; Burke, Ilic, Ansah

Unavailable: Skov (Injured)

Questionable:

Freiburg team news: Two out for visitors

Freiburg are without at least two players for their trip to Berlin, with Kyereh still out injured and Lienhart suspensed. Dinkci and Osterhage both face late fitness tests to determine their involvement.

Predicted XI: (4-2-3-1)Atubolu; Kubler, Rosenfelder, Ginter, Makengo; Eggestein, Manzambi; Beste, Holer, Scherhant; Grifo

Unavailable: Kyereh (Injured), Lienhart (Suspended)

Questionable: Dinkci (Injured), Osterhage (Injured)

Union Berlin vs Freiburg prediction

When taking into account the struggles of Freiburg to get themselves back in the win column recently, this is a good opportunity for Union Berlin, especially with them being at home. Their last two league defeats have been on the road, so they’ll be happy to be playing here in front of their own fans.

Freiburg boast a strong squad but momentum has stuttered and a lack of confidence could be brewing. Union won’t be easy to take down on their own patch and playing things safe via the double chance market could be the way to go, specifically backing Union Berlin to gain either three points or one.

Union Berlin vs Freiburg tip: Double chance - Union Berlin/draw
