Union Berlin are looking to bounce back in their push for European football as they welcome Eintracht Frankfurt to the capital city on Friday evening.

Union Berlin preview: Out of form Union

Union Berlin come into this one on the back of a continuation of their poor form last weekend as they succumbed to a 3-1 loss away from home at Hoffenheim, in a game in which Union were perhaps flattered by the scoreline only resulting in a two-goal defeat.

That made it back-to-back losses for Union after they had previously suffered a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Borussia Dortmund. That has extended the hosts’ winless run of form five matches since the restart to the Bundesliga at the turn of the year.

Eintracht Frankfurt preview: New era for Frankfurt

Following the relatively surprising departure of Dino Toppmoller, Eintracht Frankfurt have continued to be underwhelming across all competitions. They have slipped well away from the top four and the UEFA Champions League and into the middle-of-the-table.

Frankfurt have appointed former Liverpool winger Albert Riera, who has previously done excellent work in charge of Slovenian clubs Celje and Olimpija Ljubljana. The visitors need to turn things around and there is a need for them to push back towards the top six in the Bundesliga.

Union Berlin team news: A few injuries

Union Berlin are dealing with a few injury issues for the visit of Frankfurt with Robert Skov sidelined alongside defensive trio Diogo Leite, Josip Juranovic and Tom Rothe.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Ronnow; Doekhi, Querfeld, Kohn; Haberer, Khedira, Kemlein, Nsoki; Jeong, Burke; Ilic

Unavailable: Leite (Injured), Juranovic (Injured), Rothe (Injured), Skov (Injured)

Questionable:

Eintracht Frankfurt team news: Skhiri suspended

The visitors are now without midfielder Ellyes Skhiri, as he is missing through suspension, while attackers such as Jonathan Burkardt and Michy Batshuayi remain sidelined through injury.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Santos; Amenda, Koch, Theate; Kristensen, Larsson, Hojlund, Brown; Doan, Gotze; Kalimuendo

Unavailable: Skhiri (Suspended), Ebnoutalib (Injured), Burkardt (Injured), Batshuayi (Injured)

Questionable: Collins (Injured), Baum (Injured), Uzun (Injured)

Union Berlin vs Eintracht Frankfurt prediction

Frankfurt’s most recent outing saw them suffer a 3-1 loss at home to Bayer Leverkusen last weekend. That has extended their winless run of form to eight matches across all competitions since early-December. Union themselves are on poor form, though, and with potential ‘new manager bounce’, backing the visitors may well be the way to go for this one.
