Borussia Monchengladbach travel to Union Berlin on the hunt for their first Bundesliga win of the season at the seventh attempt.

Union Berlin preview: Sliding down the table

Just one win from their last five games in the Bundesliga has seen Union Berlin slip down towards the dreaded bottom three and this represents a big opportunity for them to get back to winning ways against a team who has struggled more than most this season. Since scoring four times against Eintracht Frankfurt, Union have been shut out in consecutive games.

Rediscovering the cutting edge going out that they boasted vs Eintracht, whilst not giving anything up defensively will be key to whether Union can arrest their recent slump and with home advantage in their favour here, it would be a good time for them to click into gear.

Borussia Monchengladbach preview: The last team standing

Borussia Monchengladbach will be hoping that the international break served as the perfect tonic for them to reset, refresh and come out of the blocks firing in a bid to turn around what has been an awful start to the 2025-26 campaign. As it stands, they sit inside the automatic relegation places and are the only Bundesliga club yet to record victory in the league so far this season.

Gladbach have at least managed to avoid defeat in two of their last three Bundesliga matches, drawing against both Bayer Leverkusen and Freiburg with a 4-6 loss at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt sandwiched in-between. Right now, it’s those small positives that they need to take.

Union Berlin team news: Skov ruled out

Left wing-back Robert Skov is expected to not feature here for Union with a calf injury that continues to hamper him and Livan Burcu’s troublesome ankle will likely see him miss out as well.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Ronnow; Doekhi, Querfeld, Leite; Trimmel, Khedira, Haberer, Kohn; Burke, Ilic, Ansah

Unavailable: Skov (Injured)

Questionable: Burcu (Injured)

Borussia Monchengladbach team news: Waiting on Reyna

Borussia Monchengladbach will give Giovanni Reyna every chance to be passed fit for this match as he battles a thigh problem. Tim Kleindienst remains out for the visitors, whilst Robin Hack also misses out.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Nicolas; Scally, Diks, Elvedi, Netz; Reitz, Sander, Engelhardt; Neuhaus, Machino, Castrop

Unavailable: Chiarodia (Injured), Hack (Injured), Kleindienst (Injured), Ngoumou (Injured)

Questionable: Reyna (Injured)

Union Berlin vs Borussia Monchengladbach prediction

It would be no surprise if we were in for a fairly drab and nervy affair between these two teams when taking into account their respective struggles. Union Berlin will be expected to force the issue as the home team, but with confidence perhaps a little low within their squad, a bad start could lead to frustration.

There are question marks regarding the overriding quality of both Union and Borussia Monchengladbach which may well be reflected over the course of this game. A draw wouldn’t be the ideal result for either side but if we are to see a winner, it will likely be by a narrow margin. Therefore, consider backing under 2.5 goals scored.

Union Berlin vs Borussia Monchengladbach tip: Under 2.5 goals
