Uganda preview: Low-scoring Uganda

Uganda began their CAF Africa Cup of Nations group stage campaign with a fairly humbling defeat against a strong Tunisia side, going down by three goals to on due to an Ellyes Skhiri strike as well as an Elias Achouri brace.

The Ugandans have been steady of late, in the last couple of years, and they even managed a second place spot in Group G of African qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which concluded in the autumn.

Tanzania preview: Tight Tanzanians

Tanzania should have been much more competitive in their qualifying group for the 2026 FIFA World Cup but eventually finished below Niger, as well as tournament hosts and favourites for this AFCON, Morocco.

The Tanzanians started this AFCON campaign with a hard-fought performance against Nigeria, eventually succumbing to a 2-1 loss to the Super Eagles in Fes due to a 52nd minute Ademola Lookman strike.

Uganda team news: Couple of changes expected

Uganda were forced into a couple of half-time changes against Tunisia and so they could make changes to their eleven for this one with Jude Ssemugabi and Melvyn Lorenzen making way.

Predicted XI (4-4-1-1): Magoola; Sibbick, Torach, Obita, Kayondo; Omedi, Semakula, Aucho, Mato; Mutyaba; Mukwala

Questionable:

Tanzania team news: Unchanged Tanzanians

Tanzania were stubborn the other day and that admirable performance, combined with the fact that they have no fresh injury issues, should ensure an unchanged eleven here.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Foba; Kapombe, Mwammyeto, Hamad, Hussein; Mauva, M’Mombwa, Allarakhia; Samatta

Unavailable:

Questionable:

Uganda vs Tanzania prediction

Uganda have a limited attack with very little quality. Their recent relative success has been built upon a sturdiness in defence which was exposed quite badly against the Tunisians. Tanzania head into this one with a similar mode of effectiveness, with perhaps too much reliance on former Aston Villa striker Mbwana Samatta up-front. A low-scoring encounter appears inevitable for this one.

Uganda vs Tanzania tip: Under 2.5 goals
