Udinese have been typically inconsistent at the start of this season as they welcome an underwhelming Atalanta side to the Bluenergy Stadium in Friuli this weekend.

Udinese preview: Inconsistent Friulians

Coached by former Legia Warsaw boss Kosta Runjaic, perennially mid-table Udinese have started the 2025/26 Serie A campaign with three victories, three draws and three defeats thus far.

The Friulians come into this one on the back of a 3-1 hammering at the hands of a Juventus side that changed their manager at the start of the week with Nicolo Zaniolo having made it 1-1 at half-time for Udinese.

Atalanta preview: Frustrating Bergamasci

Over the last decade or so, Atalanta have been one of the most entertaining teams to watch in European football but the departure of Gian Piero Gasperini to Roma over the summer has led to them becoming stagnant and too cautious under Ivan Juric.

They remain unbeaten in Serie A but have staggeringly drawn seven of their nine matches thus far. The seventh came in midweek as Ademola Lookman earned them a 1-1 draw against AC Milan at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo.

Udinese team news: Davis a doubt

Former Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and Watford striker Keinan Davis is a doubt for Udinese, having been forced off in Turin against Juventus due to injury the other day.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Okoye; Goglichidze, Kabasele, Solet; Ehizibue, Piotrowski, Karlstrom, Atta, Kamara; Zaniolo, Davis

Unavailable: Kristensen (Injured)

Questionable: Davis (Injured)

Atalanta team news: De Roon a doubt

Having limped off against Milan the other day, Netherlands international defensive midfielder Marten de Roon, formerly of Middlesbrough, is now a doubt for the visitors.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Carnesecchi; Kossounou, Hien, Ahanor; Zappacosta, Ederson, Musah, Bernasconi; De Ketelaere, Pasalic; Lookman

Unavailable: Scalvini (Injured), Bakker (Injured)

Questionable: De Roon (Injured)

Udinese vs Atalanta prediction

Udinese have a very limited attack. The Friulians lost key men over the summer, such as Florian Thauvin, Alexis Sanchez and Lorenzo Lucca. Atalanta head to the north east of Italy with frustrations growing over the defensive and conservative style of Ivan Juric. Atalanta haven’t lost yet but that is by fluke rather than judgement and siding with Udinese would appear the way to go for this one.

Udinese vs Atalanta tip: Double chance – Udinese to win or draw
