Tigres UANL overcame Major League Soccer side Los Angeles Galaxy by three goals to two on aggregate with a goalless first-leg bursting into excitement in the second-leg in Mexico in a game in which they raced into a 2-0 lead but had a nervy end at Estadio Universitario. They have suffered just one defeat in their last 12 matches across all competitions.

Cruz Azul currently sit above Tigres on goal difference in the Clausura of Liga MX with their own strong run of form ahead of this tie. They came through a quarter-final tie in the CONCACAF Champions Cup against Club America with another goalless first-leg before a 2-1 win at home in the second-leg. They are unbeaten in 14 matches since losing to Tigres in mid-February.

Both of these sides were evidently cagey in the first-legs of their respective CONCACAF Champions Cup quarter-finals and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see similar in this semi-final.
