THE PREDICTION

World number 89 Marketa Vondrousova is on the comeback trail after missing most of last season through injury and wins over Alison Riske and Ons Jabeur at the Australian Open last month were very encouraging results. The 23-year-old set a career-high WTA world ranking of 14th after fantastically reaching the Roland-Garros final in 2019 and she will be a factor on her favoured clay this season if she can stay fit. A straight-sets victory over Viktoriya Tomova on Tuesday is a solid start to a promising campaign in Linz but in-form Rebeka Masarova should be a challenge after the Spaniard stunned Ekaterina Alexandrova from a set down to back-up an excellent qualifying campaign. Masarova broke the top 100 on tour for the first time this season after finishing runner-up to Coco Gauff at the Auckland Open last month but Vondrousova should prove to be as high a ceiling. Back the Czech to win outright.
