THE PREDICTION

19-year-old Luca Van Assche will break the top 70 on tour for the first time after a storming performance against Marco Cecchinato on Sunday saw him win his Roland-Garros debut with just five games conceded. Van Assche won the Boy’s Singles title at Roland-Garros two years ago in a final with fellow Frenchman Arthur Fils but their rematch at tour-level will have to wait after world number 34 Alejandro Davidovich ousted the in-form youngster in four sets on Monday. 23-year-old ADF will have to play the villain of the piece once again here but the Spaniard is at his very best in these conditions as a former quarter-finalist two years ago and a runner-up at the Monte-Carlo Masters last season. Davidovich Fokina beat Van Assche in straight sets at the Estoril Open last month but the Frenchman can count on a partisan atmosphere on Wednesday and more sets with which to find his feet. Back ADF to earn at least two sets as the likelier if two very capable victors or consider this likely thriller a good candidate for five sets.
