World number 21 Leylah Fernandez is riding a five-match winning streak after defending her Monterrey Open title last week, her second career WTA title. The 19-year-old famously finished runner-up to Emma Raducanu at the US Open last season via a stunning series of wins over the likes of Naomi Osaka, Angelique Kerber, Elina Svitolina and Aryna Sabalenka.
AMANDA ANISIMOVA
20-year-old Amanda Anisimova set a career-high WTA world ranking of 21st back in 2019 after winning her first title at the Bogota Open and reaching the semi-finals of Roland-Garros. The current world number 43 is on the way back to that level after winning her second career title at Melbourne 1 at the start of the season.
THE PREDICTION
This looks set to be a late night thriller on Saturday between two players likely to share a storied rivalry at the top of the sport over the next few years on tour. Leylah Fernandez has the better recent form behind her after a second title won at the Monterrey Open and she will be better-backed than most non-US players against a home hopeful but Anisimova should still garner most of the support here. The American beat Naomi Osaka at the Australian Open before a round of 16 exit to eventual champion Ash Barty and if she can find that level this match should go down to the wire. Take Fernandez to win at least a set off the back of a five-match winning streak.
