KAROLINA MUCHOVA VS JASMINE PAOLINI PREDICTION
She may not be seeded at the US Open, but Karolina Muchova is certainly playing like one in New York. The 28-year-old Czech has been in superb form winning all three of her matches to this point in straight sets as she looks to repeat her best performance in this tournament from last year when she reached the semis.
Muchova has had her injury issues in recent times which is ultimately why she is not seeded here but her pedigree is such that she is actually favoured by the bookmakers against the fifth seed Jasmine Paolini here.
They have met three times before and it is Muchova who has won all three although the most recent match came in 2019.
Paolini is much improved since those days and the popular Italian has some strong form behind her also. Her route to this stage has been significantly harder and while she was handed a walkover win over Karolina Pliskova in the second round, she did well to eliminate Bianca Andreescu and Yulia Putintseva.
As the betting suggests, this really is a match that could go either way. The feeling is that Muchova just has that extra bit of class in her game and if she can match Paolini’s intensity, then she is narrowly our favourite to progress to the quarters.
