THE PREDICTION
29-year-old Jordan Thompson is one win away from breaking inside the top 40 for the first time in his career, with a career-high of 43rd set back in 2019 snapped this week. The Aussie has conceded just nine games over two matches so far in Delray Beach to maintain his strong form and he has so far needed players of top 20 quality, past or present, to oust him from tournaments this year. World number 14 Tommy Paul fits that bill of course but the American may be running on fumes after a three-set comeback over Alex Michelsen on Thursday. The 26-year-old is riding a five-match winning streak after claiming his second ATP title at the Dallas Open last weekend but, whilst he should be better for an early scare here in Florida, he will need to improve to tackle this version of a hungry Jordan Thompson. The Aussie won their only previous encounter way back in 2019 but Paul remains the slight favourite here with a partisan crowd behind him. Take Paul to win at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
TIP: TOMMY PAUL TO WIN A SET
