28-year-old Jessica Pegula reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open for a second-successive season before losing comfortably to eventual champion Ash Barty. The American set a career-high WTA world ranking of 14th last month off the back of that run but she has since shifted back to 19th. Pegula won her only WTA title to date at the Washington Open back in 2019.

World number 97 Marie Bouzkova is enjoying her tennis right now with a straight-sets victory iver Qiang Wang backing up her excellent runs in Mexico. The Czech finished runner-up to Sloane Stephens at the Guadalajara Open last month before reaching the quarter-finals of the Monterrey Open last weekend.
THE PREDICTION
This may not be as straightforward is as first appears for Jessica Pegula, who beat Marie Bouzkova in three sets in their only previous tour meeting at the US Open in 2019. Marie Bouzkova is a player capable of better tennis than her current ranking suggests and she has found a rich vein of form recently. Pegula won the Women’s Doubles event at the Qatar Masters last time out alongside Coco Gauff for some extra motivation and she has needed top 10 players to oust her from the last three tournaments. She should take this in straight sets but the outright pick for Pegula seems sensible here.
