FLAVIO COBOLLI VS DANIIL MEDVEDEV PREDICTION

Flavio Cobolli will take centre stage in the Arthur Ashe Stadium and the talented 22-year-old Italian will relish the opportunity on the primetime slot. He has impressed so far in wins over James Duckworth and Zizou Bergs but now he faces an incredibly tough test in fifth seed Daniil Medvedev.

The Russian was in surprisingly poor form in Canada and then Cincinnati but he has looked good in New York beating Dusan Lajovic and then Fabian Marozsan. Medvedev has an impressive record in this competition and with Alcaraz and Djokovic having been eliminated, he has a golden opportunity to go deep once again.

Medvedev is strong favourite here and rightly so. As much as we love Cobolli’s energy and athleticism, he just lacks the consistency to play at a high level for long periods of time and that simply will not work against Medvedev. Expect the Russian to win, likely in straight sets.
