THE PREDICTION

Former world number one Victoria Azarenka brought a current ranking if 23^rd into 2024 but she stands to lose a huge amount of places after the Australian Open, where she won both of her Grand Slam titles back-to-back in 2012 and 2013, if she cannot emulate her surprise semi-final run from last season. A straight-sets victory over Anna Kalinskaya was a solid way to open her account in Brisbane but this is no gimme against in-form Clara Burel, who has an extra match in her legs after beating Zeynep Somnez and Anhelina Kalinina without dropping a set. The 22-year-old will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of around 50^th for her efforts after some strong work on the ITF circuit late last season but Azarenka remains the slight favourite on ability in these conditions.

34-year-old Azarenka has become one of the more unpredictable players on the WTA tour in recent years so it is worth leaving this match out of an accumulator. Otherwise, consider taking Burel to sneak at least a set to leave the result up to chance.
