World number 62 Benjamin Bonzi bet fellow Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech in straight sets on Thursday on his main draw debut at Indian Wells. The 25-year-old reached the second round of the Paris Masters back in 2020, with this just his second appearance at this stage of a Masters event.
LORENZO SONEGO
26-year-old Lorenzo Sonego has been in decent form this season so far without really pushing on, with recent defeats to Miomir Kecmanovic and J.J. Wolf not up to his standards. Despite that, the Italian is back up to his career-high ATP world ranking of 21st achieved mostly on consistency across the tour. Sonego has two titles, his most recent coming on clay at the Cagliari Open last season.
THE PREDICTION
This match looks like a potential upset with 25-year-old Benjamin Bonzi in excellent recent form and Lorenzo Sonego taking his eye off the prize a few times recently. Bonzi stunned Aslan Karatsev at Open 13 last month before losing to eventual runner-up Andrey Rublev in three sets in the semi-finals there. Whilst Sonego should be coming through the winner here, the shrewd move looks to be backing the Frenchman to win at least a set.
