22-year-old Alycia Parks overcame Julia Grabher in three sets on Tuesday to get her Hua Hin campaign underway well but this is a serious step-up in quality against the fourth seed. World number 36 Petra Martic is often prone to a choppy start to a tournament she should be better for a comeback victory over Kristina Mladenovic. The 32-year-old won her second WTA title last season on her favoured clay but she is a solid competitor across all surfaces. Martic looks one of the main contenders in Lyon alongside the likes of top seed Caroline Garcia, defending champion Shuai Zhang and rising star Linda Noskova and she should be reaching the quarter-finals at least. 22-year-old Parks is a player with plenty of promise but a win in this first meeting with Martic would come as a surprise. Back the Croat to win outright.
