THE PREDICTION

World number 27 Alex de Minaur produced one of his best displays this season after going down a set to home hopeful Jack Draper in the late match on Thursday. 23-year-old De Minaur was competitive throughout but he really turned the screw in the second-set tiebreak, claiming it 7-0 before a comfortable four-set victory. The Aussie is one of the better players on grass on the ATP tour, with his most recent of five ATP titles coming on the surface at last season’s Eastbourne International, and he can set his best showing here with one more win.

That seems likely but not a given against a second-successive British hope, Liam Broady, who has so far played 14 sets of tennis across singles and doubles. The 28-year-old’s biggest strength is his fitness, though, and he utilised both that and a partisan atmosphere to recover from losing 11 games in a row against 12th seed Diego Schwartzman, winning in five sets for the second round in a row. Broady will be backed like cult hero on Saturday but De Minaur enjoys these occasions just as much and the Aussie should be able to spoil the party here, probably in three sets, Broady’s performances deserve the caution of an outright pick for De Minaur inside an accumulator, though.
