THE PREDICTION

World number 47 Albert Ramos-Vinolas has been struggling more than he would have expected at the start of the clay swing but the veteran Spaniard came back from a set down to beat Tomas Martin Etcheverry on Tuesday to kick-start his Rio campaign. The 35-year-old looks the solid favourite in this first meeting with world number 88 Daniel Elahi Galan, who claimed his first win of a tough 2023 so far in straight sets over Pedro Cachin on Tuesday. 26-year-old Galan famously stunned Stefanos Tsitsipas at the US Open last summer but the Colombian lost five matches in a row, across surfaces, until Tuesday’s victory. Ramos-Vinolas should be taking this in straight sets but caution would be advisable right now. Take the Spaniard to win outright.
