THE PREDICTION

This should be a really entertaining semi-final clash between qualifier Ana Konjuh and the Silicon Valley seventh seed Danielle Collins. 23-year-old Konjuh is slowly making her way back to her potential level after a couple of torrid years with injury and she came back from a set down to beat in-form Shuai Zhang well on Friday. The Croatian made the final of the Serbia Open earlier this year but was forced to retire through injury which at this stage of her young career seems to be her main opponent on tour.

In her way is one of the fiercer competitors on the WTA in world number 36 Danielle Collins. The 27-year-old has put in three excellent performances this week in San Jose to put out former US Open champion Sloane Stephens and now world number 20 Elena Rybakina to reach a third consecutive semi-final on tour. Collins will have the backing of an American crowd here and in this form looks hard to side against, so take her to win at least a set here as the likelier of two capable winners.
