Iva Jovic extended her winning run to five matches after coming from a set down to beat Harriet Dart in her opening match at the China Open. The teenager, who defended her Guadalajara Open title last month, began slowly but found her level to win 2-6 6-3 6-3. She is up to 11 in the live rankings.

Jovic faces Kamilla Rakhimova next. The 25-year-old produced a brilliant performance to beat Leylah Fernandez in three sets. Fernandez entered the tournament having just won her first tour-level title of the year in Singapore, but she was largely uncompetitive in sets one and three as Rakhimova claimed a 6-2 4-6 6-3 win. She advanced to the third-round of the US Open at the beginning of last month, defeating Barbora Krejcikova in her opener.

Jovic leads the head-to-head 2-0. She beat Rakhimova in three sets earlier this year in Dubai. The 18-year-old has to be regarded as a firm favourite to come through this one.
