Sudan preview: Solid Sudanese

Having been genuinely competitive in a tough qualifying group for the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside the Democratic Republic of Congo and Senegal, Sudan have been improving as an international side for a while now.

The Sudanese started with a tough 3-0 defeat to Algeria in their opening game of the group stages but they then managed to edge past Equatorial Guinea the other day due to a late Saul Coco own goal.

Burkina Faso preview: Improved Burkinabe

Burkina Faso had become a force in African football about a decade ago before majorly declining but the Burkinabe’s appear to have re-established themselves as a team that can go deep in the CAF Africa Cup of Nations.

Burkina Faso began with a 2-1 defeat of Equatorial Guinea in Casablanca, courtesy of a dramatic late turnaround, before then suffering a slender 1-0 loss to Algeria due to a Riyad Mahrez penalty the other day.

Sudan team news: Abo Eisa out

Former Bradford City winger and key man for Sudan, Abo Eisa, is an injury issue for the Sudanese, while Mohamed Abuaagla is also sidelined with Salaheldin Alhassan is still missing through suspension.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Elneel; Barglan, Saeed Ahmed, Karshom, Khamis; Khidir, Omer, Taifour; Abdallah, M. Eisa, Abdelrahman

Unavailable: Alhassan (Suspended), A. Eisa (Injured), Abuaagla (Injured)

Questionable:

Burkina Faso team news: Fully fit

Burkina Faso have a fully fit and available squad for this one and there are no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues so they should name an unchanged eleven here.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Koffi; Yago, Dayo, Tapsoba, Kouassi; Sangare, Ouedraogo, Zougrana; Traore, Kabore, Ouattara

Unavailable:

Questionable:

Sudan vs Burkina Faso prediction

This is expected to be a low-scoring encounter. A draw could well be ideal for both teams as the four best third placed teams from the six groups at this AFCON will edge through to the round of 16. Sudan have a very defensive style and that could frustrate a Burkina Faso side that have failed to score before the 95th minute of a match in this tournament and so it may not be thrilling for the neutral.

Sudan vs Burkina Faso tip: Under 2.5 goals
