Stuttgart preview: Dropping points

Stuttgart were overtaken last weekend by Hoffenheim following the latter’s win over Heidenheim, whilst Stuttgart failed to get the better of Mainz. Whilst they did extend their unbeaten streak in the Bundesliga to four games, that will have been little consolation when considering Mainz’s position in the table.

After coming from behind to lead by two goals to one, things were looking good for the visiting side. But Mainz hit back late with a goal in the first minute of second half stoppage time to equalise and deny Stuttgart three points.

RB Leipzig preview: Five unbeaten

RB Leipzig’s last five Bundesliga encounters have seen them pick up 11 points after three wins and two draws. The most recent of those games saw Ole Werner’s side defeat Augsburg 2-1 as unlike Stuttgart, the late show worked in Leipzig’s favour as they came from behind to win in thrilling fashion.

After falling a goal down in the 39th minute, it took until the 76th for Leipzig to level through Yan Diomande and following an all-out barrage on Augsburg’s goal, Werner’s men finally broke through in injury time, an Arthur Chaves own goal sealing victory.

Stuttgart team news: Late call on Vagnoman

Stuttgart are missing Jovanovic due to a back problem and could also be without Vagnoman, who faces a late fitness test after having being hit with a thigh injury.

Predicted XI: (3-4-3): Nubel; Jaquez, Chabot, Hendriks; Leweling, Karazor, Stiller, Mittelstadt; El Khannouss, Undav, Fuhrich

Unavailable: Jovanovic (Injured)

Questionable: Vagnoman (Injured)

RB Leipzig team news: Goalkeeper still missing

RB Leipzig remain without first-choice goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi and there aren’t expected to be any surprises within their starting line-up, with Vandevoordt continuing in goal.

Predicted XI: (4-3-3): Vandevoordt; Baku, Orban, Lukeba, Raum; Gruda, Seiwald, Baumgartner; Diomande, Romulo, Nusa

Unavailable: Gulacsi (Injured), Nedeljkovic (Injured), Ouedraogo (Injured)

Questionable:

Stuttgart vs RB Leipzig prediction

Two teams well aware of the consequences that defeat could bring to their respective quests to secure Champions League football next season. They’ve been so hard to separate over the course of the campaign so far with both on 47 points and the attacking quality of Stuttgart and RB Leipzig should lead to an exciting encounter.

Each of the last ten Bundesliga fixtures involving at least one of Stuttgart or RB Leipzig has seen over 2.5 goals scored across 90 minutes. Neither are the strongest defensively but make up for it with their offensive prowess. With that in mind, it’s well worth backing over 2.5 goals between the pair regardless of the final outcome in this contest.

Stuttgart vs RB Leipzig tip: Over 2.5 goals
