Stuttgart preview: Racking up points

Stuttgart will have seen the results of their Champions League rivals on Saturday and now know what they need to do in order to get back into the top four. This is a team that continues to blow opponents away with their offensive firepower and having accumulated 11 goals over the course of their last four league games, this has led to them picking up ten points in that period.

Most recently though, Stuttgart were in European competition, beating Young Boys by three goals to two this past Thursday night, the fourth time across their last six matches in all competitions that Sebastian Hoeness’ side have scored three goals in a single fixture.

Freiburg preview: Weaker on the road

Although Freiburg’s results at home in recent weeks have been good, picking up wins away from the Black Forest have proven significantly tougher. Julian Schuster’s men have drawn one and lost two of their most recent three away fixtures in all competitions, most recently being beaten by French side Lille in the Europa League.

A late penalty from Olivier Giroud broke Freiburg hearts in that one, despite it not stopping them from finishing inside the top eight. The schedule has not worked in their favour though, with Julian Schuster’s side forced to head back on the road here in what is a short turnaround in fixtures.

Stuttgart team news: Zagadou remains out

Stuttgart are still without Dan-Axel Zagadou through injury, whilst Tiago Tomas and Lazar Jovanovic also remain on the treatment table for the hosts.

Predicted XI: (4-2-3-1): Nubel; Vagnoman, Jeltsch, Chabot, Mittelstadt; Karazor, Stiller; Leweling, El Khannouss, Fuhrich; Undav

Unavailable: Jovanovic (Injured), Tomas (Injured), Zagadou (Injured)

Questionable:

Freiburg team news: Same two out

Once again, Freiburg will be missing the pair of Daniel-Kofi Kyereh and Philipp Lienhart, with neither having yet recovered from injury.

Predicted XI: (4-2-3-1): Atubolu; Treu, Ginter, Rosenfelder, Gunter; Eggestein, Manzambi; Beste, Suzuki, Grifo; Matanovic

Unavailable: Kyereh (Injured), Lienhart (Injured)

Questionable:

Stuttgart vs Freiburg prediction

A high-quality encounter should be on the cards here between two strong sides. Both were in action midweek in their respective European endeavours with Freiburg having the disadvantage of an away fixture in France and now having to travel to Stuttgart just a few days later, whilst their opponents haven’t had to leave home.

Stuttgart’s form has been excellent and they aren’t showing signs of crumbling in the race for Champions League football. Their ability to rack up goals at will makes them a formidable outfit and with home advantage in their favour, backing them to overwhelm the Freiburg backline and come out on top in this match appears to be the smart play.
