Stuttgart preview: Overperformers in Germany

In the last few years, Stuttgart have been remarkably entertaining for their supporters, with a relegation/promotion playoff win in 2023, runners’ up and UEFA Champions League qualification in 2024 and then DFB-Pokal winners in 2025.

Stuttgart have had a busy summer again and they have so far managed to keep hold of Bayern Munich target Nick Woltemade. They have brought in Lorenz Assignon alongside Noah Darvich, Lazar Jokanovic and Chema so far this summer.

Bayern Munich preview: Need to become dominant

Bayern Munich endured a laboured summer as they reached the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup before exiting to Paris Saint-Germain. Vincent Kompany re-established the Bavarians back at the top of the Bundesliga last season.

They have had a quieter summer than was perhaps expected with a deal for Woltemade yet to come to fruition. Kompany has, though, been able to bring in centre-back Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen and winger Luis Diaz from Liverpool.

Stuttgart team news: A few doubts

Stuttgart head into this one with several key injury doubts as goalkeeper Alexander Neubel is potentially unavailable alongside the likes of midfielder Angelo Stiller.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Neubel; Vagnoman, Jaquez, Chabot; Assignon, Karazor, Chema, Mittelstadt; Fuhrich, Woltemade; Undav

Unavailable:

Questionable: Neubel (Injured), Stergiou (Injured), Zagadou (Injured), Stiller (Injured), Diehl (Injured)

Bayern Munich team news: A few injuries

Bayern Munich are dealing with a few injury issues to start the season with Jamal Musiala suffering a horror leg fracture in that aforementioned clash against PSG.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Neuer; Laimer, Kim, Upamecano, Guerreiro; Kimmich, Goretzka; Olise, Bischof, Luis Diaz; Kane

Unavailable: Ito (Injured), Davies (Injured), Pavlovic (Injured), Musiala (Injured)

Questionable: Wanner (Injured), Gnabry (Injured)

Stuttgart vs Bayern Munich prediction

Stuttgart will, as ever, be difficult to play against this season, simply because of the high energy aggression that they play with. It can often lead to chaotic matches, but tends to make them entertaining. Bayern do appear quite short in the final third of the pitch with Mathys Tel having departed permanently alongside Thomas Muller, Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman. Despite that, they have to remain favourites for a potentially topsy turvy affair at the MHPArena in Stuttgart.
