Stuttgart will be expected to respond strongly against Augsburg after seeing their winning run in the league ended at the hands of RB Leipzig.

Stuttgart preview: Second best in Leipzig

Stuttgart has won their last five Bundesliga fixtures prior to their away trip to RB Leipzig. However, that run came to a crashing halt as Leipzig ruthlessly took them down, beating Sebastian Hoeness’ side by three goals to one. After going 2-0 down, Tiago Tomas pulled one back, before Leipzig sealed the three points late on.

That result sees Stuttgart currently sat in sixth-place heading into this game following Saturday’s matches which saw Bayer Leverkusen triumph 6-0 and Hoffenheim shock Leipzig in Sinsheim. Three points here would move Stuttgart back into the Champions League places.

Augsburg preview: Just above the line

Only goal difference currently prevents Augsburg from falling into the bottom three after losing their sixth Bundesliga game of the season against Borussia Dortmund. It was a narrow defeat by a single goal but leaves Augsburg with currently the worst defence in the league, with no team having conceded more than their 21 goals.

Whilst the Dortmund performance injected some confidence into their backline, going away to Stuttgart is a difficult assignment for them, especially with Augsburg having picked up just a point from the last nine available to them.

Stuttgart team news: No Demirovic

Striker Ermedin Demirovic misses out for Stuttgart due to a foot injury, whilst both Diehl and Drljaca are also ruled out. Jaquez could join them on the sidelines if he fails to recover from an adductor problem.

Predicted XI: (4-2-3-1): Nubel; Vagnoman, Jeltsch, Hendriks, Mittelstadt; Karazor, Stiller; Leweling, El Khannouss, Fuhrich; Undav

Unavailable: Demirovic (Injured), Diehl (Injured), Drljaca (Injured)

Questionable: Jaquez (Injured)

Augsburg team news: Only Gouweleeuw a doubt

Augsburg are waiting on the fitness of just one player, that being captain Jeffrey Gouweleeuw. The centre-back missed out last week with a knee issue and it remains to be seen as to whether he will be back in time for this one.

Predicted XI: (3-4-3)Dahmen; Banks, Matsima, Schlotterbeck; Fellhauer, Massengo, Rexhbecaj, Giannoulis; Saad, Komur, Claude-Maurice

Unavailable:

Questionable: Gouweleeuw (Injured)

Stuttgart vs Augsburg prediction

The expectation is that Stuttgart, despite having exerted themselves heavily in Europe this past Thursday night against Feyenoord, will be expected to dominate much of this game, certainly from a possession standpoint. Under Hoeness, Stuttgart always seems to carve out plenty of goalscoring opportunities over the course of a fixture and this one should be no different.

Augsburg have lacked potency going forward of late and have fallen short against the European contenders such as Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig. Expect it to be the same story here against Stuttgart and back a home victory.
