Stuttgart Preview: Focus on the Pokal

A couple of seasons ago, Stuttgart avoided relegation to the 2. Bundesliga by winning the end of season promotion/relegation playoff. A year later they had finished as runners’ up in the top-flight, finishing above Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga table.

They sold several key players over the summer and have naturally regressed but their average Bundesliga form can be almost forgotten about in a fortnight as they take on third-tier side Arminia Bielefeld in the final of this season’s DFB-Pokal.

Augsburg Preview: Mid-table Augsburg

Augsburg come into this one on the back of a 3-1 defeat to relegation-battling Holstein Kiel at the WWK Arena in their most recent outing last weekend in a game in which they were blown away by the strugglers before former Huddersfield Town striker Steve Mounie pulled one back.

The visitors have now managed just one win in their last six matches after an impressive run of form through the middle part of the campaign. That leaves the Bavarians sitting in the bottom-half of the Bundesliga table with two games of the season to go.

Stuttgart Team News: Several doubts

Stuttgart are dealing with several injury doubts for this weekend’s visit of Augsburg as former Borussia Dortmund defender Dan-Axel Zagadou is set to be sidelined alongside Enzo Millot and El Bilal Toure.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Neubel; Stenzel, Jeltsch, Chabot, Mittelstadt; Karazor, Stiller; Leweling, Undav, Fuhrich; Woltemade

Unavailable: Stergiou (Injured), Raimund (Injured)

Questionable: Zagadou (Injured), Millot (Injured), Toure (Injured), Diehl (Injured), Chase (Injured), Nartey (Injured)

Augsburg Team News: A few doubts

Augsburg head to Stuttgart with a few key doubts for this one with defender Noahkai Banks potentially unavailable alongside both Mergim Berisha and attacker Yusuf Kabadayi.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Dahmen; Matsima, Gouweleeuw, Zesiger; Wolf, Onyeka, Jakic, Giannoulis; Komur, Claude-Maurice; Essende

Unavailable:

Questionable: Banks (Injured), Oxford (Illness), Berisha (Injured), Kabadayi (Injured)

Stuttgart vs Augsburg Prediction

Stuttgart have underperformed and then massively overperformed before leaving themselves in a position where you could say they have once again underperformed – and yet their rollercoaster three seasons could still end up with silverware and European qualification once again. Augsburg have little to play for and are playing like that, whilst the same can indeed be said for the hosts in the league so a low-scoring affair, contrary to most Stuttgart games, seems likely.

Stuttgart vs Augsburg Tip: Under 3.5 goals
