Liam Rosenior’s Strasbourg have performed well since returning from the French winter break with the Alsace-based club now taking on seemingly relegation-bound Montpellier Herault.

Strasbourg Preview: Silky Strasbourg

Under the management of former Hull City boss Liam Rosenior, Strasbourg have been entertaining to watch throughout the campaign with their 20 Ligue 1 matches consisting of 65 goals and they have lifted themselves into the top-half of the table.

However, the hosts do come into this one on the back of back-to-back defeats after losing to struggling Stade Rennais by a goal to nil last weekend before then losing by three goals to one to Angers in the Round of 16 of the Coupe de France in midweek.

Montpellier Preview: Struggling Montpellier

Former Ivory Coast boss and boyhood Montpellier Herault supporter Jean-Louis Gasset was drafted in earlier this season to replace struggling Armenian coach Michel Der Zakarian but the visitors remain in the bottom two and the relegation places ahead of the weekend.

The visitors had recently enjoyed back-to-back victories towards the end of January but they now come into this one on the back of a defeat at home to Lens by two goals to nil due to strikes in either half from M’Bala Nzola and Jeremy Agbonifo.

Strasbourg Team News: Bakwa out

Dilane Bakwa had enjoyed an impressive run of form early on in the New Year but the attacker is now sidelined for the hosts alongside fellow attacker Moise Sahi, whilst goalkeeper Alaa Bellaarouch is also unavailable with Thomas Delaine a doubt.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Petrovic; Sarr, Omobamidele, Doukoure; Doue, Diarra, Santos, Diego Moreira; Ouattara, Emegha, Lemarechal

Unavailable: Bellaarouch (Injured), Moise Sahi (Injured), Bakwa (Injured)

Questionable: Delaine (Injured)

Montpellier Team News: Nzingoula suspension

Key midfielder Rabby Nzingoula is unavailable for this weekend’s trip to Alsace due to suspension. Former Celtic defender Christophe Jullien is also out injured alongside the likes of Issiaga Sylla and Axel Gueguin.

Predicted XI (4-1-2-1-2): Lecomte; Tchato, Kouyate, Sagnan, Sainte-Luce; Chotard; Omeragic, Fayad; Savanier; Al Tamari, Delort

Unavailable: Jullien (Injured), Maksimovic (Injured), Nzingoula (Suspended), Sylla (Injured), Gueguin (Injured)

Questionable: Ndiaye (Injured)

Strasbourg vs Montpellier Prediction

As mentioned, Strasbourg have been entertaining to watch and they returned from the winter break with three successive victories and a draw before their recent defeats in the last week or so. They now face a Montpellier side that have been improved as Gasset’s tenure has gone on as they try and push themselves into the relegation battle and away from being adrift. Despite the sale of Akor Adams to Sevilla, they have been able to create more in attack than they had previously and with Strasbourg’s high-scoring tendencies, both teams scoring would appear a good bet for this one.
