Strasbourg preview: Push for Europe

It has been a strong start to the season for Strasbourg but Liam Rosenior’s side, who are big spending with the ownership support of BlueCo, do now come into this one on the back of just two victories in their last six matches across all competitions.

The Alsace-based outfit head into this one on the back of a 2-1 loss to Olympique Lyonnais in a game in which they led but went down to ten men and eventually conceded a 91st minute winner scored by Afonso Moreira.

Auxerre preview: Struggling Auxerre

Auxerre, coached by Christophe Pelissier, are aiming to avoid the dreaded ‘second season syndrome’ after overperforming last season, following promotion in 2024, and it has been a very tough start to the campaign for the visitors.

They begin the midweek round of fixtures sitting tucked inside the bottom two and the automatic relegation places, heading into this one on the back of a 1-0 loss at home to fellow strugglers Le Havre the other day.

Strasbourg team news: Fresh issues

Strasbourg defender Ismael Doukoure is missing through suspension for Strasbourg and they also have fresh injury doubts involving English duo Ben Chilwell and Sam Amo-Ameyaw.

Predicted XI (4-2-2-2): Penders; Doue, Sarr, Omobamidele, Hogsberg; El Mourabet, Barco; Diego Moreira, Julio Enciso; Ouattara, Panichelli

Unavailable: Doukoure (Suspended), Sylla (Injured), Sow (Injured), Emegha (Injured)

Questionable: Chilwell (Injured), Amo-Ameyaw (Injured)

Auxerre team news: Danois a doubt

Key attacker Kevin Danois is now a key doubt for Auxerre this weekend, with the visitors having a couple of confirmed absentees due to knee injuries being Telli Siwe and Nathan Buayi-Kiala.

Predicted XI (5-4-1): Leon; Casimir, Senaya, Francisco Sierralta, Akpa, Mensah; Sinayoko, El Azzouzi, Owusu, Loader; Mara

Unavailable: Siwe (Injured), Buayi-Kiala (Injured)

Questionable: Danois (Injured)

Strasbourg vs Auxerre prediction

Even though their results have perhaps dipped of late, the performances of Strasbourg have remained strong with circumstances conspiring against them to deny their thrilling form. They now face an Auxerre side that are in desperate trouble and may already be circling the drain in France’s top-flight and so Strasbourg will be expected to ease to a reasonably comfortable victory here.

Strasbourg vs Auxerre tip: Strasbourg to win -1 handicap
