Two clubs in woeful form collide as St. Pauli takes on bottom of the table Borussia Monchengladbach.

St. Pauli preview: Off a cliff

Following what had been a really good start to the season, things have since gone drastically wrong for St. Pauli. They’ve lost each of their last five matches in the league, which has seen them slip down the table and leaves them now looking nervously over their shoulders at those in and around the bottom three.

Each of their last three Bundesliga fixtures have seen St. Pauli fail to score and this something that head coach Alexander Blessin needs to rectify against the league’s bottom-placed club. To drop points here would be a big blow.

Borussia Monchengladbach preview: Still no win

Borussia Monchengladbach remain the only Bundesliga club still without victory in the league and that is reflected in where they are currently, bottom of the table. They’ve lost three of their last four league matches with them giving up 12 goals over the course of those three defeats, an average of four conceded per game.

Obviously, the backline needs to perform in a similar fashion as to what we saw from them against Freiburg, whilst a morale-boosting DFB-Pokal victory at home to lower-league side Karlsruher SC may have at least given the squad some belief moving forward.

St. Pauli team news: Near full-strength

Aside from defender David Nemeth, who is suffering with a groin injury and right-back Arkadiusz Pyrka, St. Pauli should have everybody available for this vital encounter.

Predicted XI: (3-4-1-2): Vasilj; Wahl, Smith, Mets; Saliakas, Sands, Fujita, Oppie; Sinani; Kaars, Pereira Lage

Unavailable: Nemeth (Injured)

Questionable: Pyrka (Illness)

Borussia Monchengladbach team news: Several out for Gladbach

Borussia Monchengladbach are without Castrop through suspension and multiple players through injury, such as Robin Hack and Tim Kleindienst among others.

Predicted XI: (3-4-3)Nicolas; Sander, Elvedi, Diks; Honorat, Reitz, Engelhardt, Netz; Machino, Tabakovic, Stoger

Unavailable: Castrop (Suspended), Chiarodia (Injured), Hack (Injured), Kleindienst (Injured), Ngoumou (Injured)

Questionable:

St. Pauli vs Borussia Monchengladbach prediction

Borussia Monchengladbach aren’t looking like turning things around anytime soon with their backline continuing to concede goals in bulk. To have given up three goals in back-to-back games following that 0-0 draw with Freiburg has been damaging and spirits must be extremely low within the Gladbach camp.

But if the visitors are to get their first league win of the season, now may be the best chance they get when considering the terrible form of St. Pauli. The hosts have lost their last five in the Bundesliga, but playing at home here should give them a big boost in a potential relegation six-pointer with the St. Pauli fans knocking how high the stakes are. Expect a cagey battle with under 2.5 goals scored.

St. Pauli vs Borussia Monchengladbach tip: Under 2.5 goals
