St. Helens team news: Welsby back in the fold

St. Helens are hugely boosted by the return of Jack Welsby from injury, although he may not see much action to begin with as Paul Rowley likely looks to ease him back in slowly. Bill Leyland has also been named in the squad after joining on loan.

Squad: Jack Welsby, Kyle Feldt, Harry Robertson, Tristan Sailor, Jonny Lomax, Alex Walmsley, Daryl Clark, Matty Lees, Shane Wright, David Klemmer, George Delaney, Matt Whitley, George Whitby, Noah Stephens, Joe Shorrocks, Owen Dagnall, Nene Macdonald, Jake Davies, Tom Humphreys Jackson Hastings, Bill Leyland

York Knights team news: Visitors heavily depleted

York Knights have a big problem in terms of lacking player personnel and that is reflected in their squad announcement, which includes only 18 players after Josh Griffin became the latest to be sidelined through injury.

Squad: Scott Galeano, Ata Hingano, Jack Martin, Paul McShane, Paul Vaughan, Jesse Dee, Denive Balmforth, Xavier Va’a, Justin Sangare, Oli Field, Kieran Buchanan, Jon Bennison, Matty Foster, Sam Cook, Myles Harrison, Cody Hunter, David Nofoaluma, Ben Littlewood

St. Helens vs York Knights prediction

Whilst York Knights deserve significant credit for snapping their long losing streak with a resounding 38-14 win over Toulouse, significantly tougher opposition lies ahead in the form of joint front runners St. Helens, who are looking to overtake Leeds Rhinos at the Super League summit. The Saints have impressed on all fronts recently, especially with how they’ve shut down opponents defensively, conceding an average of just ten points over their last three games in all competitions, each of which ended in victory.

When taking into account the formidable nature of St. Helens at home, they remain perfect on their own patch so far this season, any outcome other than a comprehensive win for Paul Rowley’s side would be a big shock and whilst York can take heart from the last round, they should be outmatched in this one.
