Spain team news: Will Bonmati start

The big question mark surrounding Spain is whether superstar midfielder Aitana Bonmati will make her first start of the group stage after coming off the bench against Portugal. Bonmati had been hospitalised pre-tournament with viral meningitis. Elsewhere, defender Irene Paredes returns following a suspension.

Predicted XI (4-1-4-1): Coll; Batlle, Paredes, Aleixandri, Carmona; Guijarro; Caldentey, Bonmati, Alexia Putellas, Pina; Gonzalez

Belgium team news: Balancing defence with attack

It’s a tricky selection here for boss Elisabet Gunnarsdottir, who needs to find the right mix of defence and attack, taking into account the quality of Belgium’s opposition. That means five defenders will likely remain in the starting XI. There may be a change in midfield though with Marie Detruyer coming in for Mariam Toloba.

Predicted XI (5-4-1): Lichtfus; Janssens; Tysiak, Kees, Cayman, Deloose; Teulings, Vanhaevermaet, Detruyer, Eurlings; Wullaert

Spain vs Belgium prediction

Spain’s quality was on full display against Portugal as they racked up five goals in an emphatic victory. If Belgium are to avoid a similar fate here, they’ll need to be at their absolute best defensively, whilst goalkeeper Lisa Lichtfus will have to be outstanding between the posts, otherwise it could be a very long 90 minutes for the Red Flames.

It’s scary to think that Spain could get even stronger in regards to their starting line-up if Aitana Bonmati is fully fit and chosen from the off by Montse Tome. But even without the midfield maestro, Spain still boasts the likes of Alexia Putellas, Maria Caldentey and Patri Guijarro among their ranks. The fact that they could afford to leave the likes of Salma Paralluelo and Athenea on the bench tells everything you need to know regarding the resources of the reigning World Cup winners.

The expectation is that Spain will not only win this game, but win it with the same sort of conviction we saw from them in the opening round of group stage fixtures. Therefore, back Spain to rack up a victory by at least a three-goal margin.
