Southampton vs Middlesbrough prediction

Southampton put in a reasonable performance in midweek but they eventually succumbed to a late 2-1 loss to Liverpool in the third round o the EFL Cup at Anfield. Saints have started slowly in the second-tier, with just one victory in their opening six matches in the Championship thus far.

Middlesbrough, under the management of former Luton Town boss Rob Edwards, come into this one on the back of a brilliant start to the season in which they have managed five wins and shared one draw in their opening six games. ‘Boro most recently defeated West Bromwich Albion by two goals to one at the Riverside at the weekend.

Southampton will be expected to get themselves on the front foot and use their performance from midweek as a confidence boost, but Middlesbrough should be able to control them and see them off with relative ease based on their performance level.

Southampton vs Middlesbrough tip: Double chance – Middlesbrough to win or draw
