This could be a career-defining match for Patrick Vieira with a sacking at Genoa damning for his career and a sacking could well happen if they lose away at Sassuolo this week.

Sassuolo preview: Struggling Sassuolo

Sassuolo come into this one on the back of an impressive 2-1 defeat of Cagliari at the Unipol Demus in the island of Sardinia during the week, courtesy of second-half strikes scored by Armand Lauriente and Andrea Pinamonti.

Following promotion back to Serie A last season, Sassuolo are expected to cement themselves firmly in the middle-of-the-table, and perhaps even the top-half, under the management of 2006 FIFA World Cup winner Fabio Grosso.

Genoa preview: Woeful Genoa

In the 2024 November international break, Genoa turned to Patrick Vieira and the former Crystal Palace boss did an excellent job to steer them to the middle-of-the-table but they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting rock-bottom in Serie A.

The Ligurians remain winless in their opening nine matches with three draws and six defeats. The visitors come into this one on the back of a 2-0 defeat at home to newly-promoted Cremonese the other day.

Sassuolo team news: Still no Berardi

Domenico Berardi is missing through injury but Sassuolo have a lot of impressive depth in the final third with the likes of the aforementioned Lauriente and Pinamonti.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Muric; Coulibaly, Walukiewicz, Idzes, Cande; Thorstvedt, Matic, Kone; Volpato, Pinamonti, Lauriente

Unavailable: Romagna (Injured), Boloca (Injured), Pieragnolo (Injured), Skjellerup (Injured), Berardi (Injured)

Questionable:

Genoa team news: Stanciu a doubt

There are no fresh injury concerns for Genoa to deal with this weekend, although Romania international attacking midfielder Nicolae Stanciu is dealing with a thigh issue.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Leali; Norton-Cuffy, Ostigard, Johan Vasquez, Caricol; Masini, Malinovskiy; Cornet, Carboni, Ellertsson; Ekhator

Unavailable:

Questionable: Stanciu (Injured)

Sassuolo vs Genoa prediction

Sassuolo head into this one as the firm favourites. It has been a very impressive start for a team that should never have even been relegated and playing in Italy’s second-tier in the first place. They have suffered just one defeat in their last five matches as they take on the lowest scorers in the league with one of the worst defensive records and Vieira appears set for the chop, and this could be the final nail in the coffin.
