Key stats

  • San Marino have lost all but two of their previous 79 World Cup qualifying matches (D 0-0 vs Türkiye 1993 and D 1-1 vs Latvia 2001).
  • Austria have won four of their last six World Cup qualifying matches (L2).
  • Austria won the only previous two matches between these teams in the qualifying campaign for UEFA EURO 2000 (W 4-1 a, W 7-0 h).

San Marino vs Austria prediction

It has been a typically tough start to qualifying for San Marino but they can take some positives from only losing 1-0 to Bosnia and Herzogovina last time out. They have been scoring goals or late having done so in four of their last six so they will be looking for small wins like that where possible.

That will not be easy against a strong Austria side. Amid the horrific tragedy in Graz on the morning of the matchday, emotions will be running high for the Austrians but they will be motivated to do well.

With Bosnia flying out of the traps and winning all three of their matches so far, Austria know they have no margin for error so they will be fired up to ensure all three points here. We expect them to start strong and kill this game off early.
