Red Bull football has taken a hit in the last 12-18 months or so, and that was perhaps best shown by Salzburg’s underwhelming group stage exit at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States earlier this summer.
They were also underwhelming in the first-leg of this UEFA Champions League second qualifying round tie, but the Austrians managed to come from behind to defeat Brann by four goals to one at Brann Stadion in Norway last week.
Brann took a 20th minute lead in that game before Salzburg eventually flexed their muscles in the second-half thanks to goals from Nene Dorgeles, Karim Onisiwo, Yorbe Vertessen and Maurits Kjaergaard.
It took an hour for Salzburg to show they were still of a level above this stage of the competition, but they should go off earlier in this second-leg and complete a victory.
