Always a strong player on the outer ring, Ryan Joyce was ruthlessly efficient against Owen Bates in the first round, hitting nine of his 14 doubles and averaging over 95 in his 3-0 victory.
Living up to his 'Relentless' nickname, Joyce hit ten 140s against Bates and looked in strong form as he seeks to emulate his run to the fourth round last year, when he pushed eventual champion Luke Littler close.
Krzysztof Ratajski delivered a remarkably similar performance in seeing off Alexis Toylo by the same scoreline, with the 'Polish Eagle' checking out 50% of his doubles and averaging 97.67 in his opener.
Ratajski is a solid and methodical player and always plays at his own pace, and you can almost guarantee an average in the mid 90s. Joyce is of a similar ilk, so this is poised to be a closely-fought encounter that will be decided by fine margins. With that in mind, it wouldn't be a surprise to see this go the distance.
